Ethel Edna Houtz passed away on May 31st. She was the daughter of Hosea and Pearl Wadlington. She was born July 30, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Ward High School in 1944. She met Bill shortly after he returned from World War II at the Alta Vista Cafe that she owned and operated. They were married on April 30, 1950, and farmed in the Templin Community for a few years. They later owned and operated the Houtz Hardware store in Alta Vista.
Darrell Lee Clauson, 65, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday (March 22, 2023) at his home in Wamego.
Born June 5, 1957 in Raymondville, Texas, Darrell was the son of Donald and Kathrine L. (Roberts) Clauson. At 18 years old he joined the U.S. Marine Corp where he proudly served his country. Soon after leaving the service, he moved to Lubbock, Texas and met his future wife, Charlyn White. They married on September 3, 1983. Their daughter Loryn (punkin head) was born in 1986. The family moved to Wamego in 1994.
Margaret Ann Miller, 83, of Manhattan, Kansas, formerly of St. George, died Friday, December 23, 2022, at the Stoneybrook Retirement Center in Manhattan. She had been a resident of the area since 1962.
Margaret was born April 8, 1939, in Wichita, Kansas the daughter of Orian and Jewell (Iames) McGaughey. She attended local grade schools and graduated in 1957 from High School in Wellington, Kansas.
Irene Elizabeth Provencher, 70, of Milford, Kansas, passed away after a long, hard fought illness on Friday (October 14, 2022) at Good Samaritan Society (Valley Vista) in Wamego, Kansas.
Born December 16, 1951, in Romford, England, Irene was the daughter of Jorgen Scheuer and Phyllis Elsie (Savage) Rasmussen. Irene married Lee Provencher on December 27, 1976, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Jarold (“Jerry”) William Boettcher of Manhattan, age 82, formerly of Beloit, died surrounded by family on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara; children Chris Boettcher (Lynne) of Benton, Melinda Grafel (Dan) of Oberlin, Andy Boettcher (Wendy) of Dayton, Ohio, and Miranda Grummon (David) of Shawnee; grandchildren Kade, Brittan, Isabel, Aidan, Drew, Dylan, Ella, Josh, Addyson, and Isaiah; and sisters Janet Wesselowski of Wichita and Kathy Aros (Richard) of Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Zelma Boettcher, and one sister, Sylvia Wolf of Quinter.
Carol Rose Geren, 87, was born January 26, 1935, in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Forest and Cecelia (Lintz) Area the 7th of 8 children. She passed away March 26, 2022. Carol lived in Oklahoma and Kansas and graduated from St. George (Kansas) High School. Some of her favorite childhood memories were playing in the nearby creek, climbing trees, and eating mulberries. On August 18, 1955, she married Donald Geren and they spent 63 wonderful years together.
Sandra Kay (Langley) Reigle, 68, of rural Belvue passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Wellsprings in Westmoreland with family by her side. Sandy fought a courageous 3 1/2 year battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 8, 1953 in Emporia, the daughter of Wanda (Williams) Langley and Donald Matthew Langley. Sandy was employed by the State Court of Appeals since 1987. She loved the outdoors working in her flower garden, camping, fishing, riding her horse, walking playing and caring for her dog and cats.
Wanda Lynne Bassett, 68, of Olathe, KS, passed away at her home in Olathe, Kansas Thursday, August 19, 2021. She was born on September 8, 1952, in Westmoreland, Kansas, and spent most of her childhood years in Manhattan, Kansas. Wanda was well known for her fun-loving nature, love for family and friends, and dedication to work. She loved the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, K-State Wildcats, tropical vacations, and movies. She always looked forward to family gatherings and loved keeping up with her three generations of nieces and nephews.
Christopher Mark Bullock age 57 passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. He was born in Odessa, Texas on June 18, 1964. Chris attended school in Derby and Phillipsburg, Kansas. After the untimely death of his father, Chris developed a lifetime friendship with Rolf Halstensen through the Big Brother program, he also became very close to his uncle, Ken Bullock.
Richard Charles “Rick” Neel, age 75, of Manhattan, died January 24, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. He was born September 9, 1946, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Charles Harvey and Pauline Bernice (Curtis) Neel. Rick grew up in Manhattan and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1964 and then from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
