Purple PAWS – Advocating the Ideal of a No-Kill Nation
Purple PAWS founder Susan Clasen
Purple Power Animal Welfare Society (501c3 not for profit organization) was founded in order to save the lives of homeless, unwanted pets in the greater Manhattan area. The board members of Purple Paws are animal lovers who have been involved in animal rescue, on a small or large scale, their whole lives. The board is committed to the No More Homeless Pets/No Kill Nation philosophy, believing that all companion animals deserve a loving home and believing that there is a loving home for all animals. We further believe that euthanasia of healthy companion animals is not acceptable; killing for space has become an unacceptable standard practice in shelters across this country. It is our belief that the solution to pet overpopulation is trifold, being the spaying/neutering of all pets, actively promoting adoption of homeless pets, and effective regulation of breeders.
Purple Paws is licensed by the state of Kansas Department of Agriculture as a Pound/Shelter. We pull homeless pets from kill shelters before they are euthanized, as well as, take in pets before they go to the shelter. We have a network of caring foster homes that have taken in over 130 dogs in the past year. These pets have been adopted into loving, furever homes. Purple Paws could not do this very important work without a great team of volunteers! Our volunteers are very committed to caring for homeless pets :)
Purple Paws is also a fund raising non-profit organization whose purpose is to raise funds in order to pay for the ongoing work in rescue; most of our expenses are veterinary care. We promote community awareness of the importance of spay/neuter and offer education on animal welfare. We are all volunteers and are not paid for our time. We enjoy a great deal of support from the local community. We also have a broad base of support from our business sponsors in the community. 100% of the funds raised by Purple Paws are used to help homeless animals!
